Trailer For New “Lion King” Movie Finally Released

The live-action remake of the classic Disney film, The Lion King, is set for release in the summer of 2019, and now, the studio has officially uploaded the very first trailer.

On Thanksgiving Day, Disney published a 90-second teaser, including the re-creation of the now-iconic opening scene from the 1994 film featuring baby Simba held up for all of the animals in the kingdom to see.

James Earl Jones, who came back to voice Mufasa once again, says in the trailer that “everything the light touches is our kingdom.” The movie is set for release on the 19th of July, 2019, and stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, as well as Keegan-Michael Key.

The Lion King was directed by Jon Favreau, who took control of the live-action and computer-generated version of Disney’s The Jungle Book. Approximately a year ago, Seth Rogen took to Twitter to share the upcoming movie’s cast and the voices each one of them were portraying.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in July of last year, Seth Rogen said it was “thrilling” because he’s a huge fan of The Lion King, and he joked that it was also probably the “most expensive movie” he’ll ever be in.

As fans know, The Lion King, which came out in 1994, held the record for the highest-grossing animated film of all time for many years, earning nearly a billion dollars fourteen years ago.

The film earned two Academy Awards, for the score as well as Elton John’s song, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.” Since its release, The Lion King has gone down in history as arguably one of the greatest animated films, possibly even taking the number one spot.

While it’s hardly a “cult film,” in the original sense of the word, it can still be classified as such for its devoted fan base. Produced for $45 million, The Lion King earned $968.5 million, not including the amount of money the film generated in merchandising and miscellaneous toys. In 1998, a sequel came out, The Lion King 2, but was considerably less popular with both viewers and critics.
