Johnny Depp’s problems are appearing to get worse, following reports that he wouldn’t be starring in the next installment of Pirates Of the Caribbean, the series which catapulted him into worldwide stardom, and arguably one of the biggest Hollywood stars in recent memory.
However, it appears as though the decision to get rid of Mr. Depp will save studios an estimated $90,000,000 on their total budget. That’s right, studio executives believe they won’t have to spend $10 million shy of $100,000,000 due to the lack of Johnny Depp’s inclusion.
According to Forbes Magazine and Fox News, Johnny received approximately that amount when he starred in 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. It goes without question that the film, which cost $230,000,000 to create, paid nearly half of their budget to Johnny Depp. And worse yet, the movie only made $172,558,876 at the box office domestically – a terrible failure in comparison to the production and marketing budget reports Box Office Mojo.
With that said, the movie went on to earn $794,861,794 around the world – still a smashing success, but not quite as good as the series used to be when Johnny first started. Consequently, Disney is charting a new path for the rest of the franchise, even hiring writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, formerly of Deadpool, to work on the new film. In other words, there’s no question that the next film will be markedly different, with new writers as well as the absence of Depp.
Furthermore, some have called for studios to stop working with Depp, who was embroiled in a number of different controversies ever since his marriage with Amber Heard dissolved in 2016. As it was previously reported, Amber Heard published a video of what appeared to be she and him fighting while the actor poured himself another glass of wine.
Moreover, he has fought a long legal battle with former business managers who claim he merely spent all of his cash, rather than misspent his funds as he claimed they did. Reports later came out that Johnny was spending approximately $30,000 per month on wine alone.
To make matters worse, Amber accused Johnny of abuse and separated from him while taking a couple of million dollars in the process. Depp has denied her claims of abuse.
