Omotola unhappy that African movies were not included in Oscars 2019

Many more people who had written off Nollywood movies no longer mind going to the cinema to spend good money on some films. However, Nigerian films are still taking baby steps and are not yet on the expected international level.

International movie award show, The Academy Awards also known as the Oscars, which celebrates achievements in the film industry over the world recently announced movies that were nominated for different categories.

However, some Nigerian movies can boast of other great achievements. Top actress, Genevieve Nnaji recently made the country proud with her first movie as a director, Lion Heart. On the eve of the premier, giant global video streaming network, Netflix, announced a deal to acquire worldwide rights to the movie, making it its first original film from Nigeria.

Netflix has previously licensed Nollywood flicks including romantic comedy The Wedding Party as well as crime thriller October 1, but only after both had been screened in local cinemas.

Genevieve has reportedly earned $3.8 million (N1,385,100,000) after Netflix bought her movie Lion Heart. The movie which is currently being streamed on Netflix has been praised by many. According to the talented actress/director, this is the first step to how we change the narrative in Nigeria.
