Just 24 hours to Christmas, famous child actor and comedian, Williams Uchemba, has been accused of multiple fraud allegations by a group of young Nigerians.
In what could be described a successful year for Uchemba who has been able to melt the hearts of his fans through comedy, the actor who became famous as a child star has been accused of fraud by an activist and a group of young Nigerians who claimed that he took $1000 dollars from them to register them as delegates for a United Nations conference.
It all started when a US-based activist named Edafe Okporo, shared a screenshot of a chat thread with the former child actor revealing information on how to register delegates to attend a UN Youth Assembly conference.
Details contained in the leaked chat showed that someone believed to be Uchemba wrote to the victim saying: “I will need three things from you: passport data page, email address and registration fee ($1,000). After payment is confirmed, I will then send you a questionnaire for you to fill and send back.”
But Okporo who had received complaints from more people contacted the UN Youth Envoy, Jayathma Wickramanayake, an aide to the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, who dissociated herself from the actor and stating that Uchemba was unknown to the organisation.
