Lana [Wachowski] is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we’re thrilled that she is once again writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.’
Wachowski also did the directing and writing for the other three movies, alongside her sister Lilly Wachowski.
As for the upcoming film, it is set to be co-written by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.
In a statement, Wachowski talked about going back to that project, saying that: ‘Many of the ideas that Lilly and I explored twenty years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I am very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.’
The first Matrix movie was very successful, grossing more than $460 million worldwide.
But the film did not just excel at the box office, it was also a critical hit, winning no less than four Academy Awards!
