Great news for the diehard Friends fans who still watch the show on Netflix over and over, 25 years later! As it turns out, for the anniversary, there is going to be a reunion of sorts, and not just anyhow, but on the big screen!
That’s right! To celebrate the beloved sitcom’s 25th anniversary, Warner Bros. and Fathom Events are teaming up to release ‘Friends 25th: The One with the Anniversary.’
While it would’ve been amazing if they did an actual new movie with the original cast, it turns out that it’s going to be a screening of no less than 12 fan-favorite episodes over the course of three nights in theaters. However, this is still great news for the fans who can gather together in the same place and celebrate their shared love for the 90s series. But if you are still disappointed there is no new content, there will actually be bonus content released alongside the episodes such as interviews and other behind the scenes stuff that’s never been shared with the public before!
The CEO of Fathom Events, Ray Nutt stated that: ‘We’re thrilled to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends, a show that continues to impact culture and to attract new fans from across multiple generations. Fans will have the unique opportunity to come together and look back on some of the most hilarious and also emotional scenes from the comedy — this time in theaters.’ The three nights during which the screenings will take place are September 23, September 28 and October 2. The event will be taking place in over a thousand theaters in the U.S.
President and chief marketing officer of Warner Bros. Television Group, Lisa Gregorian also released a statement that reads in part: ‘The cultural impact Friends continues to have, 25 years after its premiere, is astounding and a true testament to Marta Kauffman, David Crane, Kevin Bright and the incredibly talented cast’s genius. It is amazing to know the series is still bringing people of all ages together. We couldn’t be more excited to deliver these digitally remastered episodes to theaters — for the first time ever!’
